Will Eisner

Will Eisner (1917 – 2005) was an American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. One of the earliest cartoonists to work in the American comic industry, he created the seminal series The Spirit (1940–1952) and in 1978 popularized the term “graphic novel” with A Contract with God. The prestigious Eisner Award was named in his honor, and is given to recognize achievements each year in the comics medium.
